Official: Liverpool secures top Premier League defender signing

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on their next signing of the summer, with final negotiations expected to take place in the coming days.

Fresh off securing their 20th league title in Arne Slot’s impressive debut season, the atmosphere at Anfield is filled with optimism. The team surpassed expectations under their new manager and is now focused on strengthening the squad to stay competitive domestically and in Europe.

Despite the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool acted swiftly to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen as his replacement. They also brought in Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi to boost squad depth. However, more changes could be on the way, as players like Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez, Harvey Elliott, Joe Gomez, and Jarell Quansah have all been linked with possible exits.

The club’s recruitment team is focusing on four key areas: striker, winger, attacking midfielder, and left-back. Two players reportedly high on their list are Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

Liverpool have made multiple bids for Wirtz but are reluctant to meet Leverkusen’s full valuation, hoping to agree on a lower price for the German playmaker.

In contrast, negotiations for Kerkez appear to be progressing more smoothly. After an impressive season with Bournemouth, the 20-year-old left-back is seen as a potential long-term successor to Andy Robertson.

Trusted journalist David Ornstein reported on Tuesday that discussions involving Liverpool, Bournemouth, and the player’s representatives are planned for this week, and there is strong confidence that a deal will be finalized soon.

Bournemouth are already preparing for Kerkez’s departure, eyeing Rennes’ Adrien Truffert as a replacement—though that deal depends on the completion of Kerkez’s move to Anfield.

With talks advancing, Liverpool seem poised to announce their third signing of the summer in the near future.
