Slot urges Trent Alexander-Arnold to follow Steven Gerrard’s example and reject Real Madrid

Steven Gerrard famously turned down the chance to leave Liverpool and join Real Madrid back in 2008.

Now, in 2025, Arne Slot has urged Trent Alexander-Arnold to follow suit.

He said, quoted by the Daily Mirror: “I think there was one player [Gerrard)]Real Madrid would have really loved to have signed – but he didn’t go. So it has happened.”

He continued: “Trent’s focus is with us. He’s in almost everyone’s team of the year for the first half of the season. That shows how much he’s here at the moment.”

Slot added: “Look at his performances and how he trains. He’s not distracted at all, and neither are other players like Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah.”

Trent, whose contract expires at the end of June, has rejected contract offers from Liverpool. He’s believed to be interested in joining Madrid, who can sign him on a pre-contract agreement this month.
