Darwin needs goal – that’s why I kept him on’: Arne Slot

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has shared his thoughts on Darwin Nunez’s performance in the Reds’ narrow 1-0 victory over Girona in the Champions League.

“I would have loved to have seen Darwin score because he needs a goal and that’s why I kept him on the pitch for quite a long time.

He was a threat but when a striker doesn’t score you’re always asking yourself whether it’s a not good play or because of lacking confidence,” Slot has said.

Liverpool’s victory over Girona secured their sixth consecutive win in the competition, with Mohamed Salah’s penalty providing the decisive goal.

Reacting to Slot’s comments, Liverpool fans praised the manager for his honesty despite yet another Champions League victory.

One wrote: “I absolutely love how blunt he is with the press. Takes no prisoner attitude with the press and then, I’m sure the team on training days!”

Another said: “This guy doesn’t settle for anything less than ‘work your socks off’. Good times ahead.”

And a third added: “I like this man, I like him a lot. Not too much annoyance but enough to let everyone know. I bet it was a bit different behind closed doors.”

  1. I think some fans forget that this is professional football and not social training. It must be compared with those for professional jobs. you get paid to complete a specific job. if you can’t do the job you quit or get fired. the job of a pro fotball striker is to score goals. if you can’t score, you’re in the wrong place. unfortunately the guy lacks quality.
