Rayan Cherki is seemingly confident he will join Manchester City despite holding transfer talks with Liverpool earlier this month. The 21-year-old met with Arne Slot as the Reds honoured a meeting that had been arranged before they ramped up interest in Florian Wirtz.
Man City are now considered favourites to sign Cherki from Lyon, having previously withdrawn from the race to sign Wirtz.
However, Pep Guardiola’s side have reportedly had their first offer for the France international rejected by the Ligue 1 outfit.
Cherki impressed on his senior international debut on Thursday night, registering a goal and assist off the bench as France fell to a 5-4 defeat to Spain in the Nations League semi-finals.
Man City have until 7pm on Tuesday, June 10 to finalise a deal for Cherki if they wish to include the 21-year-old in their squad for the group-stages of this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.
Liverpool are currently not expected to bid for the France international as they remain in talks with Bayer Leverkusen over what would be a club-record deal for Wirtz.
