Man City ‘launch’ legal action against Premier League as Everton and Liverpool watch on

Manchester City are reportedly taking more legal action against the Premier League.

The latest challenge is said to be again regarding Associated Party Transactions.

APT regulations specifically concern what represents ‘fair market value’ when clubs do deals with entities linked to their owners.

These amendments addressed the findings of an arbitration tribunal following a previous legal challenge by Man City earlier last year.

The club also faces 130 charges for allegedly breaching the league’s financial rules after their case was heard by an independent panel last autumn, although the club vehemently deny any wrongdoing.

It is, instead, believed that the Premier League has shared with its clubs what Man City challenged during the most recent hearing.

The Mail reports that the club’s legal team believe that despite the tweaks, they still ‘discriminate’ against them and, in doing so, they allegedly provide their rivals with an unfair advantage.

Everton are one club said by City to have been beneficiaries to benefit from shareholder loans after taking £450million in 2022/23.

ATP rules were branded ‘void and unenforceable’ in February, but that was an assessment of the original regulations rather than the updated version.

The amendment to address that allowed shareholders to turn those loans into equity until early this year.

They are subject to the same test now, but Man City describes the ‘grace period’ afforded to clubs as ‘preferential treatment’.

However, there remains a difference as these loans can be paid in full before the est rather than APT deals, which are subject to a 30-day waiting period.
