The uncertainty surrounding Mo Salah’s future at Liverpool has been a constant talking point throughout this season at Anfield, but both parties have finally reached an agreement
Mo Salah is on the brink of signing a new two-year contract with Liverpool to end all doubts about his Anfield future.
A compromise deal between the club’s owners Fenway Sports Group and the 32-year-old Egyptian king has been thrashed out after months of negotiations. Salah’s long-time agent Rammy Abbas told the Anfield hierarchy that they were looking for a three-year contract while initially the club were only prepared to offer a one year extension once the current agreement ends next summer.
While the stand-off continued, Salah went public with statements that this would be his last season with the club he joined in 2017 and has gone on to become a Kop legend. Worried Liverpool fans demonstrated with banners including ‘He Fires a Bow Now Give Mo His Dough’.
The money – he is already Liverpool’s highest earner on more than £400,000 a week – has never been a problem. The length of the contract has been the sticking point. FSG are reluctant to offer long-term contracts for players who have turned 30, the same reason that Virgil van Dijk, 33, has yet to be tied down, his current contract like Salah’s running out in the summer.
With no sign of Salah’s influence waning – he is the Premier League’s leading scorer – and created Premier League history at Newcastle on Wednesday night to score and assist in 37 separate games overhauling Wayne Rooney’s record of 36 games, FSG have finally come to the Anfield party.

Barring any last minute hiccups, Salah will put pen to paper on a new lucrative two-year contract which will also be music to manager Arne Slot’s ears, the Dutchman having quickly realised he has inherited a gem. It will also deliver a blow to the Saudi Pro League who were hoping to add the Egypt international to their roster of big stars. Last summer Liverpool rejected a £150million bid from Al-Ittihad.
In agreeing a new Liverpool contract Salah has also turned his back on a name your price fortune to play in the Middle East once he was a free agent. Instead to the delight of his adoring Liverpool fans he is now committed to challenging for more trophies on Merseyside.
